Year 6

  • Class Teachers: Mr Handy (Mon)  & Mrs Cotterill (Tues - Fri)
  • Support Staff: Mrs Ash and Mrs Mitchell

Year 6

English: This term (Autumn), we will be looking at the genres of narrative writing, non-chronological reports, setting descriptions and letter writing, drawing on our focus text ‘Holes’.

Maths: We will be looking at place value, understanding the value of and rounding and ordering numbers up to 10,000,000. We will follow this by addressing the four number operations (addition, subtraction, division and multiplication). Finishing the term with fractions and decimals. We begin every maths lesson with a daily 7, which revisits the use of the four number operations in many different contexts.

For a more detailed overview, please see the curriculum overview at the bottom of this class page.

Homework

This term the children will bring home a homework folder and piece of English and Maths will be set each week. Homework pages will be set on a Tuesday, which will then be marked the following Tuesday. It is extremely important that homework is completed and brought into school by the deadline.  Support will be available in school during lunchtimes, should your child require support to complete the task.

In addition to this set homework, each week your child should read aloud most days and their reading record books signed. If they could also ensure that their reading record books are in on a Tuesday, it will give us the opportunity to sign and check these. They should also continue to work on learning all their times tables up to 12x12.

Class Routines

PE will take place on a Wednesday (Mrs Cotterill) and Thursday (In2Sport) PM in the Autumn Term. In the Spring and Summer terms both sessions will be led by Mrs Cotterill. Children should come into school in their PE kit on these days. No earrings or watches are allowed. Children need to have a blue PE shirt, blue shorts and/or jogging bottoms, a warm jacket, trainers and socks.

As ever, if you require any further information, please come and chat to the class teacher after school or send an email via the school office secretary@st-michaels-school.org
