Year 1

Autumn Term

Welcome to Year 1!

English: We will be: exploring how we write sentences, practising letter formation and learning new spellings, through writing about ourselves and through traditional tales.

Maths: We will be: exploring number and place value to 10 and looking at Addition and Subtraction.

Homework: In Year 1 our priorities are phonics and reading. We encourage children to read at home at least 5 days a week. The children can gain certificates and move up the reading awards the more times they read.

In preparation for our Phonics screening in June, we also encourage daily practice of the sounds that we have learnt in class...more information to follow. In addition, the children may sometimes have small homework activities to help with their other subjects, such as History.

PE days

PE will take place on a Monday PM and Tuesday PM. Children should come into school in their PE kit on these days. No earrings or watches are allowed. Children need to have a blue PE shirt, blue shorts and/or jogging bottoms, a warm jacket, trainers and socks.
