Summer Term

Summer is coming and it's going to be a busy fun filled term.  This term in Y2 we will be looking at the following:

Our maths will continue to build on what the children learnt in the previous term applying their knowledge across different topics in maths.  They will continue to learn their multiplication & division facts for the 2, 5 and 10 times table. Throughout all our maths topics we have been developing the children's reasoning and problem solving skill and this term they will begin to do this more independently.  We will be learning how to tell the time on an analogue clock, measuring weight and using language to navigate around a grid.  The children will be revising our learning and demonstrating their understanding in the end of KS1 SATs.

This term we will be looking at a range of genres where the children will be able to demonstrate and develop their creative skills through writing, reading and performing.  The children will be looking at different types of sentences and how to punctuate them correctly. They will then be looking at writing facts, recounts, letters and stories linked to our curriculum.  Through all of the writing, the children will be developing their knowledge of grammar and punctuation. We will consolidate basic punctuation and begin to use a wider range of punctuation to improve our writing. We will look at extending our sentences using a range of conjunctions and a more interesting and varied vocabulary to make our writing more interesting.

Our topic for this term is 'Our Amazing World'. This topic will begin with us discovering the wonders, both human and physical features, in our own area and gradually extending out into the wider world.  Here we will look at the continents and oceans of the world. Then we will be looking at some of the wonders of our underwater world linking to our class trip to the seaside.  We will be linking some of our creative topic learning with our science topics of animals and their habitats and plants.

We will take a brief break in our topic to further our learning linked to our wonderful 'WOW Trip' taking place later this 1st half term.

PE will take place on a Wednesday PM and Thursday PM. Children should come into school in their PE kit on these days. No earrings or watches are allowed. Children need to have a blue PE shirt, blue shorts and/or jogging bottoms, a warm jacket, trainers and socks.

Alternating Maths and English homework will be sent home every week on a Friday and then marked the following Thursday. Please remind your child to bring in their Homework book every Thursday so new English or Maths sheets can be stuck in!

In addition to this set homework, each week your child should read aloud most days and their reading record books signed.

For a more detailed overview, please see the curriculum overview at the bottom of this class page.
