Welcome to the Year 2 Class page.
Please see below for information about what the children will be focusing on this term.
Maths:
During our maths lessons, we will be focusing on being able to tell the time, fractions (1/2, 1/3 and 1/4) and position and direction. Throughout all of our maths topics, we will develop the children's reasoning and problem solving skills.
English:
During the Summer term we will be looking at a range of genres where the children will be able to demonstrate and develop their creative skills through writing, reading and performing. We will start the term learning how to write an exciting adventure story. If you have any adventure story picture books at home, please share these with your children to give them a wide range of ideas to include in their own stories.
Through our writing, the children will be developing their knowledge of grammar and punctuation. We will consolidate basic punctuation and begin to use a wider range of punctuation to improve our writing. We will look at extending our sentences using a range of conjunctions and a more interesting and varied vocabulary to make their writing more interesting.
Homework
We will continue to alternate maths and literacy homework. Please continue to hear your child read as often as possible, ideally four times a week. If your child has a phonics shed book, please make this book the priority and encourage your child to read it as much as possible. The more they read it, the more familiar they will become with new words and the more fluent they will become.
Attached below, there is also a list of high frequency and common exception words that children should know by the end of Year 2.
Geography
the geography topic this term is 'what is it like to live by the coast?' . The children will be Learning about the world’s seas and oceans and the importance of the ocean. They will also be identify physical features of the coast.
